Explore Naples' archaeological wonders on a school tour

Whether your pupils study archaeology, art or history, it can sometimes be difficult to get them to relate to events that took place thousands of years ago.
However, by going on a classics tour of Naples, they may be able to get to grips with the concepts and issues you have been discussing with them and apply what they learnt in the classroom to the monuments and sights they see first-hand.
And as the Italian city is full of fascinating, historic wonders your students may not only find that they can learn something but have fun while doing so.
While on classic tours for schools in the region you should be certain that you visit the Naples National Archaeological Museum.
As the cultural institution is home to objects from the Roman, Egyptian and Greek eras, it could be the perfect place for ancient history students to visit.
The museum also contains a number of relics, statues and other artefacts that were rescued from the city of Pompeii, so you and your pupils will be able to get an insight into what life was like in Italy some 2,000 years ago.
You can visit the site of the city itself during your trip to Naples. While Pompeii was buried under volcanic ash and lava in 79 AD following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the disaster preserved the city in its ancient state.
As you take a walk around the excavated area, you and your students will be able to look at villas, amphitheatres, thermal baths and other buildings. Be sure to take a camera with you when you visit Pompeii, you may be able to use your snaps as learning aids back in the classroom.
Why not visit the city's Palazzo Reale, or royal palace as it translates in English?
Work on the building was first started under Naples' Spanish rulers at the time, although by the time it was completed in the 19th century it was under the control of the Italian monarchy.
Other sights you will want to incorporate as part of your school travel service experience include the Pantheon and Duomo, the city's cathedral which contains Renaissance-era chapels and an early 20th century facade.
With so many sights to behold, your pupils are sure to find a trip to Naples rewarding.
